Delegates of Zeiss Group and Oasis International Hospital pose for the launch of the Presbyopic Correction High-End Medical Establishment in Beijing on September 28, 2022.Beijing Oasis Hospital together with Zeiss has unveiled a Presbyopic Correction High-End Medical Establishment in Beijing on Wednesday, providing services for middle-aged and elderly people who are troubled by presbyopia, cataracts and high myopia to realize high-definition middle and near vision as well as distance vision.
The launch of the base is an opportunity for the hospital to share the model, and to improve the public’s awareness of the visual concept of the whole process, which will further meet the visual quality needs of different groups of people and at different stages.
The hospital introduced ZEISS Trifocal IOLs/AT LISA trifocal IOLs as early as 2018, and it is one of the first batches of hospitals to conduct such operations. It only takes three to five minutes to finish the operation, and the patients can go back to work in 24 hours, said Kelly Wang, head of the Ophthalmology and ENT Dept.
“I have met many middle-aged people in the clinic. They are energetic but are constrained by presbyopia, which not only affects their self-image but also greatly reduces their quality of life. As a representative of high-end intraocular lenses, ZEISS Trifocal IOLs is the world’s first intraocular lens that can achieve full distance, intermediate and near vision and solve multiple eye diseases within one operation,” Wang added.
Kelly Wang, head of the Ophthalmology and ENT Dept makes a speech at the launch ceremony in Beijing on September 28, 2022.According to the recently released Beijing Aging Development Report, the proportion of permanent residents aged 60 and above in Beijing has exceeded 20 percent for the first time, and the proportion of permanent residents aged 65 and above exceeds 14 percent for the first time, showing that Beijing now has a moderately aging society.
However, with the popularization of digital offices and the increasing use of electronic products, eye conditions such as presbyopia and cataracts are afflicting younger people. Many middle-aged people in their 40s or 50s are being affected.
Wang gave the example of one patient surnamed Wang, who was a senior accountant before her retirement. Her daily accounting reports and other tasks required meticulous and precise work. She used her eyes intensively and for a long time. Although she had some loss of vision, she did not worry too much about it.
After retiring, she thought that she would finally have enough time to do what she liked, but her eyesight was getting worse and worse. Not only was it difficult to see the phone at close range but she could not even see neighbors saying hello from a distance, let alone continue driving.
The family took her to Oasis International Hospital and found that she had presbyopia combined with cataracts. After a careful evaluation, she had an operation with Trifocal IOLs/AT LISA trifocal IOLs, and was able to see far, medium, and near without wearing glasses, which greatly improved her quality of life.
“In our hospital, about 40 percent of our patients for vision-related operations are foreigners and 60 percent are Chinese. The whole process of the operation is painless, and we also offer cataract operations for kids as young as 7 years old, Wang said.
Oasis International Hospital is a general hospital established in 2011, and BOE Technology Group is its parent company.
“We hope we can do better and be more rigorous and have better cooperation with insurance companies in the high-end medical field,” Wang said.
